Mailman! According to the Rebecca email newsletter I got this morning, the NEW REBECCA should be out today! The fabulously organized BonneMarie has even posted the link to their website so you can preview...some very cute items including the obligatory knitted swim togs. Has anyone ever knit a bikini and actually worn it! I thought not, I mean it's hard enough to keep one on with copious amounts of lycra, but it boggles the mind that wet cotton/acrylic could not double as a sea anchor. They're awfully cute though.
As far as actual kntting content, I've ripped out the half fisherman cardie--THREE TIMES! OH yeah! The fronts came out too big as compared to the $1 Kohl's cardie that is the model of perfection for which I am striving. How ironic, the 80% off clearance price cardie knit by a machine in China and composed of 100& acrylic is my perfect cardie. So rip rip rip rip rip...I'm now knitting the cardie in the round and will steek the front opening ala Retro-Prep Pullover/Cardie, IK, Fall 2002, pp. 22-24. For added joy, I'm knitting this on size 1 needles (normal folk can use 3s...).
Amazing progress... |
the new rebecca looks great doesn't it? I agree with you on the swimwear, looks cute but not practical at all!

I've not ever tried tubular cast on in the round. But honestly, I don't see why it *couldn't* work. You could be a guinea pig and cast on a test swatch on a 16 in and see what happens. All for the betterment of the Knitting World, of course.

Ooh, yes, lots of cute things in the new Rebecca! I've never knitted any swimwear for myself, but my mother did knit and crochet a couple of swimsuits for me when I was a little girl. I have a vague recollection of the suits not completely covering up certain key areas when wet, but hey, I was 4 or 5 and not *quite* so concerned about things like that :)

I have done that cast on for socks, the tubular in the round works beautifully as long as you catch all the purl side stitches right in the beginning. Did you do the stockingette in the round before picking up the stiches? If you do it straight for that part you get the gap, if you do it in the round it is seamless. I love how that cast on looks in the end, it is more work but I tend to use it all the time now.
