Well on a chilly, windy rainy day what would you do, work on an existing project or START and FINISH a new one? Guess what I did...yeah I started another Bucket-o-chic last night and finished it up today. In the scary way that "great" minds think alike, BonneMarie posted a photo of her fabulous felted faux shearling bucket today and there I was working on my Pinstripe Bucket. Embellished buckets, a new trend...
Pinstriped just for fun! |
I was also thinking about the buttons for my Phildar retro-style jacket. The pattern calls for two HUGE buttons and I was considering velcro as a sleek alternative. The overwhelming consensus among the ya'll was NO! So I went button shopping and found nothing, before remembering that I've got a cache of actual vintage buttons given to me by a friend's grandma...I found these possible candidates. They don't match exactly, but do pick up the purple of the yarn and I like the idea that Mima gave them to me...I also love these green ones, too bad they don't match at all! Maybe I'll make a lovely green jacket to showcase them...
"Retro" thrift shops are a great place to find jars of old buttons. There's one in Maynard that seems to pull in a lot of stuff from the 50's. If I happen to be in town anytime soon, I'll stop in and see what they have. There's always Windsor Button in Boston, but you'd have to have an awfully nice sister willing to make the trip in for you. Friends will only travel so far. *teehee* Like your stitched BoC. I can't believe that gray yarn didn't hit the dyepot before it became a hat. ;)

i LOVE the purple-y buttons. i also love the green buttons. but that one calls for a jacket with many more buttons. do you read marie's site? (it's one of the french ones?) she just made a chunky little phildar cardie that calls for big buttons that i swear those would be awesome for. and i know you look good in green! :) p.s. brilliant bucket. if only i had hat hair....

Ooooh, love retro buttons! I used to love going through my mother's box of old buttons (I wonder whatever happened to that box?). The ones you've picked out for the retro jacket are fabulous!

Wow!!! You ladies are inspiring me with your stylin' buckets. I'm glad, but you gotta stop. It makes me want to knit more.
Go with the purply buttons. Definitely. You don't want a perfect match, because they'll blend in too much. You want them to compliment, bay-bee!

So, you are far enough along on the retro jacket to be thinking about buttons?!?! Go you speed knitter.
I like the purple ones too.
